Does God Count Our Tears?

I had a relative ask, “Do you think God counts our tears? I want to believe He does”. What a sweet question that is and God gives an even sweeter answer to this in His Word. Throughout the last couple of weeks in these devotionals, I hope you are reminded that we have a Lord who is compassionate, gentle, and humble. He sees you and He is with you down in the trenches of sorrow, frustration, and weariness as each tear rolls from your eyes and down your face. He also is a God who is mighty and out of His great love He does not let us stay there. Jesus endured the cross for us to deliver us from eternal condemnation, a deadly peril indeed, and He will deliver us from the brokenness of this world and give us peace, if we only fix our eyes on Him.

He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.” (2 Corinthians 1:10)

“Keep your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. For you have died, and your life has been safely guarded by the Messiah in God.” (Colossians 3:2)

“…have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)

So, does God count our tears? Yes He does, and His Word says that not only does He count your tears, but He will wipe every tear you’ve ever shed away. Revelation 21:4 says “[God] will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” when we get to Heaven… no sin, no pain, only the full glory of Jesus as we fellowship with Him. That’s why God tells us in Hebrews 6:1, 2 Peter 3:18 and other verses to grow and mature in The Lord. So that, people can look at the way we live our lives, the way we carry ourselves, the way we deal with struggles, the way we see life and be marveled by Jesus and The Gospel, glorifying The Father. Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. What are some cares that you can cast onto the Lord? Give those tears to Him and rest in the hope you have in Him.
  2. How will you encourage someone with the hope of The Lord today?

Prayer Prompt:

Think about how God has comforted you and strengthened you lately. Praise God for that and ask Him to continue to empower you in the ways of Christ as you go through the rest of your week.
